The Slighted Lover

Sarah Makem was a singer who spent the majority of her life in Keady, Co. Armagh. The songs she collected in her locality and from her own family are held in the highest regard. I learned of this song from Reg Hall’s archive CD of Sarah Makem, released on Topic Records. It is perhaps the oldest song presented here, having first been collected in the Stationers’ Company Register, with the title ‘The Forlorn Lover’ in 1675.
